Avenwood

Avenwood FamilyThis is a story of how the Avenwood Family became the most intriguing family of all worlds possible... based on the best (and some worst) RPG games that TheAvt had played from Earth year 1990...

Avenwood Year (Year A##):
Avenwood Year (also known as Year A) starts in Year A00 (Earth year 1990) when Arzon is 20 years old.  It is also based on the year that Zour Plum conceived both Avatar and Zetar age of Arzon, ie, if it is Year A15, both Avatar and Zetar are 15 years old.

Worlds involved:
- Britannia (Ultima VI-VII, IX)
- Pagan (Ultima VIII)
- Sanctuary (Diablo II & III)
- Tyria (Guild Wars 1 & 2)
- Torchlight (Torchlight I & II)
- Thedas (Dragon Age Origins)
- Earth (Mass Effect 1-3, DC Universe Online)

Consistencies throughout the worlds:
- Only fine crafted Tyrian crystals with teleportation spell are used by Tyrians to travel between worlds.  These devices are simply called Portals
- Only when Tyrians teleport to Earth do they lose their powers.  However, if they gain powers through other means on Earth, they will lose them once they travel to other worlds via their Portals, but retain their original Tyrian powers.
- Messages can be sent from a person on one world to another person on another world if they both have their Portals

Year A02 (Earth Year 1992)
Main character: Arzon Avenwood
Worlds: Earth, Britannia

(Arzon Avenwood, circa A03)

Unfortunately, Arzon lost one of his companions during his time in Serpent Isle.  Although he restored balance to the island, he was trapped in the void and The Guardian literally grabbed him and dropped him onto the island of Pagan.

Year A04 (Earth Year 1994)
Main character: Arzon Avenwood
Worlds: Pagan, Earth
PC Game: Ultima VIII

Exiled in Pagan, Arzon used his wits to survive in a world ruled by the Elemental Titans.  Eventually, Arzon defeated them with their own magic and ascended to become the Titan of Ether.

(Arzon Avenwood, circa A04)

He also reconstructed the Black Gate (which The Guardian used to enter Pagan with) and travelled back to Earth, after spending 5 years in Pagan.

Year A09 (Earth Year 1999)
Main character: Arzon Avenwood
Worlds: Earth, Britannia
PC Game: Ultima IX

Sensing the dangers in Britannia, Arzon decided to travel back via the Moongate outside his house on Earth.  Upon his arrival, he saw that The Guardian had already corrupted the entire world with his "anti-virtues". He cleansed the shrines of virtues and striked fear into The Guardian's minions, including Lord Blackthorn.

(Arzon Avenwood, circa A09)

In the final showdown with The Guardian (who was revealed to be Arzon's "dark side"), Arzon casted the Armageddon spell, merged himself with The Guardian, then ascended to a higher plane and destroyed Britannia in the process.

Year A10 (Earth Year 2000)
Main character: Arzon Avenwood (only known as The Hero)
World: Sanctuary
PC Games: Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

After wandering aimlessly in the Ether Void for a year, Arzon was drawn to the Church of Zakarum in the world of Sanctuary by The Order of Light to become one of the heroes to fight against the 3 Prime Evils: Mephisto, Diablo and Baal.  He spent 2 years in Sanctuary as a Paladin before finally destroying the 3 Prime Evils... or so it seemed.

(Arzon Avenwood, circa A10)

Seeing that the 3 Prime Evils had been defeated and Arzon was no longer useful, The Order of Light sent him back into the Ether Void.

ACT II - Separation

Year A15 (Earth Year 2005)
Main characters: Sour Plum, Avatar Avenwood, Zetar Avenwood and Milk Plum
World: Tyria
PC Game: Guild Wars

In Year A00, before he ventured to Britannia for the gargoyle issue, Arzon was romantically involved with a woman known as Sour Plum. She travelled via a Portal in search of a hero who could help her purge the evils in her homeworld of Tyria.  During the relationship, Arzon was abruptly called to Britannia and Sour Plum had to return to her homeworld as she was being called back to defend the evils of Tyria.  Before Arzon left, he gave her the Ankh he obtained when he became the Avatar.

However, when she returned to Tyria, she realised she was pregnant with twins: a boy and a girl!  While bringing up her children, she heard of the exploits of the one called Avatar in a far away world called Britannia.  She knew immediately that he was her lover.  Hence, her son was named Avatar while her daughter was called Zetar.  They were born in Year A01.

For years, Sour Plum had been tracking down Arzon's whereabouts using the Ankh that Arzon gave her, along with her mystical powers as a Mesmer, knowing that he was safe and sound, while bringing up her children.

(Sour Plum, circa A03)

However, In Year A09, Sour Plum sensed that Arzon was in grave danger on Pagan.  She then decided to leave her children in the care of her sister, Milk Plum, the healer Monk, while she jumped from Tyria to Pagan using her Portal.

But when she caught up with Arzon on Pagan, she was killed by the one of the Titans during their fight with Arzon.  Arzon did not notice her during that fight, because Devon (the one who saved Arzon when he first arrived on Pagan) carried Sour Plum to safety and resurrected her.  But the resurrected Sour Plum became soulless, and wandered aimlessly in Pagan for a year.  When news of the destruction of Britannia reached Pagan, Sour Plum snapped out of her trance, and finally came to terms that her beloved had perished.

In Year A10, she thanked and bidded Devon farewell before travelling back to Tyria to look after her children.

(Sour Plum, circa A15)

When Sour Plum arrived back in Tyria, she began training as a Necromancer, in the hope of contacting her beloved in the afterlife.  But she could not contact Arzon at all, leading her to believe that Arzon was still alive.  But by this time, Tyria was in chaos and Sour Plum, Milk Plum and the children had to flee from one province to another province, but at the same time training to fight off against the evils.

(Milk Plum, circa A15)

In Year A15, Avatar and Zetar had become powerful fighters in the professions of Elementalist and Warrior respectively.

(Avatar Avenwood, circa A15)

(Zetar Avenwood, circa A15)

Together with Sour Plum and Milk Plum, they were all living in the kingdom of Ascalon until the Charr invaded it and they had to escape.

The four of them battled many enemies and eventually fullfilled the Flameseeker Prophecies and there was peace on Tyria in Year A18.  Then they stayed in the Crystal Desert ever since before Avatar decided to shave his hair bald and leave Tyria two years later in Year A20 to explore other worlds while Zetar decided to stay for another three years before visiting her father's homeworld: Earth in Year A21.

Sour Plum decided to stay on Tyria to concentrate on pin-pointing where exactly in the universe Arzon is.

Year A19 (Earth Year 2009)
Main character: Arzon Avenwood
World: Torchlight
PC Game: Torchlight

Perhaps due to Sour Plum's soul-searching magic, Arzon's essence was being pulled from the Ether Void in Sanctuary and manifested onto a Destroyer in the world of Torchlight.  There, he met his deceased cat, Kerby.  Apparently, when Kerby passed away on Earth, his essence was linked with Arzon's which brought Kerby to Torchlight.

(Arzon Avenwood, circa A19)

As a Destroyer, Arzon, along with Kerby, joined forces with the Alchemist and the Vanquisher in search of a madman called Alric, who had been corrupted by the valuable material known as Ember to create havoc in the world of Torchlight.

But as the three of them ventured deeper into the dungeons of Torchlight, they found that it was an ancient creature named Ordrak who is the source of the Ember's corruption.

After a long battle, the three of them defeated Ordrak.  But when the curious Alchemist examined the remains of Ordrak, a dark light engulfed him and simultaneously ripped Arzon's essence from the Destroyer's body, and was thrown back to the Ether Void in Sanctuary.

Having witness the incident, Kerby ran out of the dungeons and into the woods, waiting for his master to hopefully return to Torchlight...

Year A20 (Earth Year 2010)
Main character: Avatar Avenwood
World: Thedas
PC Game: Dragon Age Origins

Avatar arrived in the world of Thedas, a few months before the fifth Blight.  He was adpoted by the noble family of Couslands (in the country of Ferelden) as the second son.  He had to suppress his Elementalist skills to avoid suspicion. After the betrayal of the Cousland by another noble family, Avatar joined the Grey Warden to fight against the Blight, an evil horde of darkspawn that wrecked havoc on Thedas every few hundred years.

(Avatar Avenwood, circa A20)

Eventually, Avatar and his companions saved Ferelden from the darkspawn.  He decided to stay on as a Grey Warden to protect the people... for now.

Year A21 (Earth Year 2011)
Main character: Zetar Avenwood (also known as Zeetar to her fellow heroes)
World: Earth
PC Game: DC Universe Online

Zetar travelled to Metropolis on Earth in the midst of an invasion from Brainiac.  She was captured by Brainiac's forces but before she was given a dose of Exobytes which gave her superhuman powers.  She escaped Brainiac's mothership with the help of Orcale and Superman, and began a life of a superhero in the never-ending battle against the evil forces in Metropolis and Gotahm City.

(Zetar Avenwood, circa A21)

Zetar did not care less for a world that was destroying itself from within.  She was just waiting for the right time to leave Earth...

Year A22 (Earth Year 2182)
Main characters: Avatar Avenwood (also known as Avatar Shepard)
World: Earth
PC Games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3

After searching for many years, and with the help of the Ankh, Sour Plum had finally located Arzon in the Ether Void.  She immediately sent out messages to both Avatar and Zetar and asked that they travel to the world of Sanctuary at once.

Avatar decided to pay a visit to Earth first and meet up with Zetar to travel to Sanctuary together.  He dispatched his message to both Sour Plum and Zetar to inform them of his decision.  However, when he activated his Portal, there was a malfunction (probably due to Lex Luthor's temporal disruption on Earth at the same time).

Avatar ended up on Earth in the year 2182 as a stowaway on board an Alliance freighter travelling to Akuze for a mission.  The marines on board assumed he was a stowaway.  Avatar then realised that his Portal had been destroyed upon his arrival and he had no way of contacting either Sour Plum or Zetar (due to different time!).

Eventually, he had to join the unit on its mission to Akuze.  When they arrived on Akuze, the mission was a failure and his whole unit were killed by a thresher maw, except for Avatar.  Being the sole survivor, he had to assume the identity of one of the marines to tell the tale.  He grabbed the dog tags of a nearby marine and looked at it.  The fallen marine was called "John Shepard".  Because of his bravery, a year later, he served as Commander onboard the SSV Normandy and changed his name to "Avatar Shepard".

(Avatar Avenwood, circa A22)

Throughout his tour of duty as Commander of the Normandy, he uncovered the fact that the Reapers going to wipe out the whole universe, but did not know when that would happen.

Then, he was killed during a mission and revived 2 years later by a secret and powerful organisation called Cerebus. Cerebus did not notice Avatar's Human/Tyrian hybrid DNA during his revival.  Avatar then fought off the Reapers on Earth when they attacked.  In a final showdown with the Being controlling the Reapers, Avatar decided to merge man and machine and jumped into the Crucible's energy beam, which transformed all life in the galaxy into a new form of synthetic-organic life.  The Reapers departed Earth but the mass relays and the Citadel were destroyed by the Crucible firing.

However, it was later discovered that the true essence of Avatar had already left the body when Avatar was killed the first time.  The Avatar who was revived by Cerebus was merely an exact copy of him.

Avatar's essence was returned to Tyria by a magic that all Tyrians would return to Tyria one way or the other, regardless of where they were.  But this essence had returned (but not revived) to a future Tyria where Sour Plum and Milk Plum had already passed on... or have they?

ACT III - Reunion

Year A22 (Earth Year 2012)
Main characters: Sour Plum, Zetar Avenwood
World: Sanctuary
PC Game: Diablo III

When Avatar did not show up on Earth at a pre-determined time and location, Zetar contacted Sour Plum to inform her of this.  Sour Plum sensed that Avatar had been killed, but assured Zetar (and herself) that Avatar's essence can easily be revived at the Ascension Temple back in Tyria.  Sour Plum then told Zetar that after 4 years of searching for Arzon, he had been finally located in the world of Sanctuary. So they decided to meet up at Sanctuary to release Arzon from the Ether Void.  Avatar's revival would therefore have to be on hold... for now...

(Sour Plum, circa A22)

Upon arriving in Sanctuary, Sour Plum and Zetar witnessed the falling of a star from the sky onto the town of Tristram.  They proceeded to investigate and were involved in a string of events, including destroying the two Lesser Evils: Belial and Azmodan.  But the real evil was the revived Diablo.  Eventually, both Sour Plum and Zetar destroyed Diablo once and for all, ridding Sanctuary of the Prime Evil.

(Zetar Avenwood, circa A22)

After that, they travelled to the Church of Zakarum, which was destroyed by Diablo's minions, to retrieve Arzon from the Ether Void.  Gathering all her Mesmer and Necromancer powers, Sour Plum was finally able to extract Arzon out.

Arzon could not believe his eyes when he saw Sour Plum, and his daughter, Zetar!  Sour Plum then told Arzon that he also had a son, but they needed to return to Tyria to revive him...

Year A22 (Earth Year 2212)
Main characters: Arzon Avenwood, Zour Plum Avenwood (formerly known as Sour Plum), Avatar Avenwood and Zetar Avenwood
World: Tyria
PC Game: Guild Wars 2

After gathering all the crystals in Sanctuary that were necessary to create new Portals for Arzon and Avatar, the trio traveled back to Lion's Arch in Tyria.  They wasted no time and traveled to the Ascension Temple to revive Avatar at the Ascension Temple.  However, there was no sign of Avatar's essence!

From her time spent on Earth fighting Brainiac, Zetar learned a great deal on temporal technology, and even had with her a temporal tracking device.  She then confirmed that Avatar's essence would arrive 200 years later!

The trio then decided that it was more important to rescue Avatar than to dwell in the present.  With that, Zetar tweaked the Portals to travel forward in time, 200 years into the future.

Once they were in the future, Sour Plum found Avatar's essence in the Ascension Temple and immediately used her powers to revive him.  But because she had used up all her strength to revive Arzon previously, Sour Plum completely lost all her Necromancer powers after Avatar was fully revived.

After the family reunion, Arzon and Sour Plum decided to officially marry and held a small celebration in Divinity's Reach, the capital of Kryta. Sour Plum then changed her name to Zour Plum Avenwood.

(Artist Impression. From left: Avatar Avenwood, Zetar Avenwood, Arzon Avenwood, Zour Plum Avenwood, circa A22)

After Arzon and Zour Plum concluded their wedding ceremony, Queensdale (the heartland outside Divinity's Reach) was suddenly under attack by centaurs.  The queen immediately dispatched her royal guards to defend her citizens.  Upon hearing the attack, the Avenwood family geared up and charged towards the incoming enemy.  This was their very first battle together as a complete family.

Defending Queensdale from the centaurs was an easy task until the family encountered a giant Earth Elemental, which the centaurs apparently conjured.  The four of them, along with other citizens of Kryta, attacked the Earth Elemental simultaneously, until it produced a great ball of energy and exploded into several energy fragments.  Still wearing their Portals (now worn as their family emblem), the Avenwoods was covered with these energy fragments and subsequently sent into a coma...

Year A22 (Earth Year 2212)
Main characters: Arzon Avenwood, Zour Plum Avenwood, Avatar Avenwood and Zetar Avenwood
World: Torchlight
PC Game: Torchlight 2

It seemed like time on Torchlight was not consistent with time on other worlds, or perhaps Torchlight was just a place imagined up by Arzon Avenwood. Whatever the reasons, Arzon and his family found themselves one second fighting an Earth Elemental in Tyria, the next second appearing in the mist of a battle in Torchlight between the Destroyer and the Alchemist, now fully corrupted by Ordrak's spirit.

Because the Alchemist did not view the Avenwood family as so much of a threat, he quickly disposed of them and the Destroyer with his energy blast and continued his journey towards his goal to conquer the world of Torchlight, leaving death and destruction in his path.

(Zetar Avenwood, circa A22)

The Avenwoods recovered shortly with the help of the Destroyer. The Destroyer told Arzon that he remembered being possessed by Arzon, like having two minds in one body. Arzon told the Destroyer that he and his family will do anything to defeat the Alchemist since Arzon felt responsible for what had happened to the Alchemist.

The Destroyer then told the Avenwood family that the Alchemist was most likely heading towards Minehead in Grunnheim and that he had to stay back to help the people of the capital town of Torchlight to rebuild.

(Avatar Avenwood, circa A22)

While the Avenwoods were heading towards the mountainous Estherian Steppes, Kerby, along with Smokey (another cat who belonged to Arzon back on Earth), a wolf and an eagle approached from the bushes. Arzon was delighted to see his two cats who had passed away on Earth but their essences were manifested here on Torchlight.

Thus, Kerby became Arzon's fighting pet; Smokey took a liking to Zetar and vice versa; the wolf was named "Wall-E" by Avatar; and the eagle, "Eve", became Zour Plum's pet companion.

(Zour Plum Avenwood, circa A22)

After having to defeat scores of monsters, demons and adversaries, the Avenwoods reached Minehead and defeated the Alchemist. But the true evil laid deep within Minehead and it threatened all life and mana on Torchlight. It was the Netherlord.

After several attempts at defeating the Netherlord, the Avenwoods finally used all their might together and banished the Netherlord from whence it came, thus saving the world of Torchlight from total corruption.

(Arzon Avenwood, circa A22)

The Guardians of Torchlight thanked the Avenwoods and assisted them in getting back to Tyria via Mapworks, because strangely, none of the Avenwoods had their Portals with them. But as soon as Zetar stepped onto the Mapworks, Smokey was repelled from it. Then the Avenwoods realised that their pets had to stay behind in Torchlight because this was their home now. So after a tearful farewell, the four of them stepped onto the Mapworks. After the Guardians activated the device, they vanished from the world of Torchlight...

Year A23 (Earth Year 2213)
Main characters: Arzon Avenwood, Zour Plum Avenwood, Avatar Avenwood, Zetar Avenwood, Genevieve Gearing and Taio Turney
World: Tyria
PC Game: Guild Wars 2

The Avenwoods were back in Queensdale on Tyria.  It was later revealed to them that what had transpired for the past 3 months in Torchlight was only 3 hours in Tyria.  Only their essences were manifested in Torchlight.  Their actual bodies were in fact lying in the healer's house in Queensdale after the attack and subsequent defeat of the Earth Elemental.

(Genevieve Gearing, circa A23)

A girl by the name of Genevieve Gearing woke up next to Avatar, and helped the healer attend to the Avenwoods.  Avatar was the first to wake up and thanked Genevieve for looking after his family.  While the rest of his family were still recovering, Avatar and Genevieve talked about many things and Avatar got to know her background:

She lost her family when she was young due to an attack by wild hogs during a picnic with her family.  She barely made it back to Queensdale where she lived most of her childhood life with her foster family before venturing on her own to Divinity's Reach.  There, she took up the profession as an Engineer.

When Genevieve asked Avatar and his family about their professions, he told her he was an Elementalist, Arzon a Guardian, Zour Plum a Mesmer and Zetar a Warrior.

(Taio Turney, circa A23)

Nearby, a Thief by the name of Taio Turney, who had assisted in the fight against the centaurs, woke up from his rest and overheard the conversation between Avatar and Genevieve about travelling to Divinity's Reach to assist the Seraph in protecting the region.  And the reason why Taio wanted to seek an audience with the queen was to obtain a pardon and to atone for his crimes.

Taio was an unwanted child, lived off the streets, joined the bandits, then betrayed by them and made a scapegoat.  He broke out of prison when the Centuars attacked Queensdale to help in the invasion.

After the Avenwoods had fully recovered, they, along with Genevieve and Taio, ventured to the palace in Divinity's Reach, where Taio was pardoned by the queen, and they assisted her in many quests.  They eventually learned that an Elder Dragon was threatening the people of Tyria through his Risen minions, corrupting soldiers and officers of the Seraph army.

In order to better serve the queen and its people, the Avenwood family had to join the 3 orders of Tyria: Vigil, Durmand Priory and the Order of Whispers.  Arzon and Zetar joined the Vigil, while Zour Plum and Avatar opt for the Durmand Priory.  Genevieve was already a member of the Order of Whispers, which Taio felt compelled to join.

(Zetar Avenwood, circa A23)

Because the family had to be once again separated, Arzon obtained two more portals for Genevieve and Taio and enhanced all of the portals to include communication capabilities with one another, thanks to Asura technology.

Thereafter, the 6 of them bid one another farewell and ventured on with their respective order.

Arzon and Zetar travelled to the Vigil headquarters, where they were assigned to a mentor to be trained in the Vigil way. They trained every day and protected and assisted many other races around Tyria against the Risen army.  They were eventually promoted to senior officers of the Vigil.

Zour Plum and Avatar travelled to the Durmand Priory headquarters, where they were assigned to a mentor to be trained in the Durmand Priory way.  They discovered many wonders of Tyria through the past and present to use against the Risen army.  They were eventually promoted to senior officers of the Durmand Priory.

(Avatar Avenwood, circa A23)

Genevieve and Taio reported back to the Order of Whispers headquarters, where she was assigned to mentor Taio in the Order of Whispers way.  They uncovered many secrets throughout Tyria in a collective bid to fight off the Risen army.  They were eventually promoted to senior officers of the Order of Whispers.

Their exploits with their respective orders brought them all together again at Lion's Arch and discovered that Lion's Arch was about to be attacked by the Elder Dragon and his Risen army.  So they all headed to Claw Island, the last line of defense of the densely-populated Lion's Arch...
